No matter how well you plan your trip, there is always a chance that something that will throw a wrench into the works and totally screw up your entire world eventually. Many people have a problem dealing with issues like a breakdown on the road, others take it in stride as part of the RV lifestyle.
It happened to me recently due to the current state of the economy, but fortunately we did have a plan in place just in the event that we had to get back to Ohio in a hurry.
One thing I have learned in the RV lifestyle so to expect the unexpected. It seems no matter how well you plan, check and double check everything, something will go awry and throw a wrench into the works.
It happened to me as we saw our break in the weather, loaded up and prepared to pull out on a nice sunny day for our journey to Central Texas. I started the engine, hit the button to retract the slide and NO MOVEMENT! The alarm was beeping as if the slide was moving, but nothing else. My heart sank and I tried to extend and retact the slide again, still no movement.
It's finally time to get on the road again and head for the warmer weather of the southwestern states! We have spent a month packing and moving items around inside the motorhome, checking tire pressures, making sure everything is in top mechanical shape and running through our checklists. I know many RV folks hit the road right after the holidays hoping to see a break in the weather to make good their escape from the cold and so are we.
One of the smartest things we did when we purchased our motorhome was to make a test run so to speak. My wife and I had both decided that going on the road for several months each year and both living and working out of the RV was realizing our dream, but we were both concerned if we could really do it.
