Review
RV awnings-while there just doesn't seem like there's much to know about awnings, Mark Polk, again, shows you just how much a little bit of ignorance can cost you if you don't know how to care for your awnings properly. In just 23 minutes he demonstrates another detail-packed checklist of tasks and considerations related to nothing but awnings.
He's broken this video down into chapters that cover:
Chapter 1: Types of RV Awnings
Chapter 2: Awning Fabrics
Chapter 3: RV Awning Hardware
Chapter 4: Using The Awning
Chapter 5: Installing A Window Awning
Chapter 6: RV Awning Accessories
Under Types of RV Awnings, he tells you about different kinds of awnings, which awnings are used with each of the different types of RV units. Then he shows examples of manual, crank, and electrically powered awnings. He shows the purpose of each kind of awning when installed in its respective location. You might be surprised at the variety of functions awnings perform, and some of the features of newer awnings.
Scattered throughout the video are numerous, useful tips. One, in particular, talks about insurance, and coverage you should make sure you have before you move your motor home or trailer.
In chapter 2, Mark demonstrates different RV awning fabrics commonly used, and describes the characteristics of each fabric, along with the pros and cons of each. He shows you how to clean each type, what equipment to use, and tips on things like how to avoid mildew. Regarding stubborn stains and potential problems, he shares not just warnings about what not to do, but solutions to those cleaning problems, as well. He covers techniques that protect the fabric types of cleaners to use, and those to avoid.
If you've ever wondered how to avoid getting tears in your awnings, or how to repair them, Mark shows you tips throughout the video. He even tells you the most common reason awnings get torn and how to avoid RV awning tears. Other tips include the single, most versatile item to have on hand at all times that is useful in repairing many different kinds of things.
In chapter 3 Mark demonstrates that part of his checklist with steps for inspecting RV awning hardware for signs of damage or wear. His checklist, again, is pretty thorough, pointing out little things we might easily overlook, that could cause serious damage if not repaired. He shows you what to lubricate, what to use as lubricant, and some safety tips, as well.
Chapter 4 has Mark showing you every step of RV awning set up and storage. He talks about RV Education 101's ebook of RV checklists, which is a must have 90-page set of 40 RV checklists for every kind of RV and every aspect of RVing. As with previous chapters, he gives you several tips to avoid common problems, like flapping.
In chapter 5 he demonstrates how to install a window awning, and how to choose the method to secure it. This segment includes a list of supplies you'll need.
Mark wraps up his presentation in chapter 6 by showing several accessories that are pretty nice to have, how to decide which are best for you, and how to install them. This is such a fact-loaded lesson I had to take notes to catch all the details.
So, if there's anything at all you want to know about RV awnings, I recommend you watch this video at least once. Like most of RV Education 101's videos and instructional tools, you can buy this on DVD, or, even better, in sets of DVDs at a nice discount.
