If you have never experienced a typical Wisconsin supper club, the Sister Bay Bowl is one of the best choices you can make.  What is a supper club?  You may be too young to know!  It is basically a restaurant with a full liquor license, and it serves prime rib,  steaks, chops, chicken, ribs and fish fry.

There are several things that make the Bowl stand apart from other similar restaurants in Door County. They serve fresh bread throughout the meal.  The loaf is small and cute, and half of it is rye, and the other half white.  They know what you mean when you say you want your prime rib rare-red and cool in the middle.  If you want horseradish to go with it, you can either get cream style, or fresh (burn the hairs from your nose) horseradish.

Friday night is fish-fry night, and that means fresh breaded and fried lake perch in a pile on your plate along with your choice of potato, and lemon wedges.  Prime rib is served on Friday and Saturday year-round, and nightly from mid-June through October.  There is a children's menu available, and it includes real food-ribs, broasted chicken, perch, shrimp, and sirloin burger, and a choice of apple sauce or salad-not just deep fried junk food.

After you put your name in for a table (they do not take reservations, by the way) you can mill about the bar, or wait on the small patio outside the bar.  You might entertain yourself by watching the bowlers in the adjoining six-lane bowling alley.

If you happen to be in Sister Bay during the day, the Bowl has a grill going for lunch.  The small menu includes a few appetizers, such as Wisconsin cheese curds, perch sandwich, bratwurst, hot dog, grilled cheeses, and a real corned beef brisket grilled sandwich.  Soup of the day, chili, and even a good sized Caesar salad can be found, with or without chicken.

As far as price is concerned, the entrees top out at about $30, but for that you get a Fred Flinstone-sized 28 oz sirloin.  Most of the entrees fall in the range of $12.95 to $18.50, and the perch is always "market price."

The bar and bowling alley area are open long after the dining room closes, and often on the weekends you'll find live entertainment going.  If you plan to eat dinner at the Bowl at the height of the summer season, get there early to avoid the wait, unless you like to have a cocktail and do a little people-watching.  Strollers are not permitted in the dining room. The dining room is non-smoking, but the bar and bowling alley are not.
