Review of Video
It's long been our dream to retire as full-time RVers, so, we're always interested in new sources of information about living this lifestyle. We've read books on dozens of subjects concerning living in and maintaining an RV, and belong to several online discussions groups, another great source of first hand information.
But, nothing we've read or heard is as loaded with information as RV Education 101's videos. Winterizing and Storing Your RV is a perfect example of the videos in this series. Had I read a book covering this amount of information, it would have taken hours, if not a few days. This video, shows, step by step, everything you need to do to completely and safely winterize your RV, and how to store it. This is excellent information for anyone new to RVing, and I'd wager that most veteran RVers could learn a few things from this video.
In well under an hour Mark Polk demonstrates a detailed checklist, of techniques covering each step necessary to winterize your RV and prepare it for its winter sleep. Tips include unique steps for draining and protecting each type of water tank and drainage system, draining tanks in the right order, choosing the right kind of antifreeze, what to lubricate, what lubricant to use, and tools and supplies needed to winterize your RV.
Did you know there is more than one way to drain your RV's water systems? Whether you choose to use an air compressor or flush methods, Mark will show you just how to do each, and the limits of each method.
Water heaters are especially vulnerable during storage, and need special treatment, as do icemakers and washing machines. He explains where to find detailed information that will help you decide which methods are best for your RV.
Storing RVs involves more than just parking them in your back yard. Mark walks you through dozens of ways to prepare your RV for storage including covers, blocks, and preventive measures to take on both the inside and outside of your motor home. He shows you what to lubricate, how to care for batteries, breakers, appliances, cabinets, air conditioners, and more. There are specific steps to protecting your engine during storage, and periodic maintenance that you shouldn't overlook. And, finally, you will want to keep pests out of your RV. Mark gives you tips on keeping mice and insects out of your RV when is not in use.
You will appreciate how he demonstrates each step, with close up views of what he is doing and how he is doing it. He shows supplies and tools in their original packages, which helps to know what to look for when shopping. Even if you choose different brands, you'll know what should be in a package, or what separate items to purchase for each step of your winterizing.
It was also a vey universal application. We will be traveling in a trailer, but everything he demonstrated is equally useful for winterizing and storing our trailer as it is for a motor home.
